Ralph Beaton
1947 - 2016

It is with regret and sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our Lifetime Commissionaire Ralph Beaton. Commissionaire Beaton served as the radio room supervisor at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, with 25 years of dedicated service.

The DFO radio room, entirely staffed by the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, serves the Province of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. All calls to the "Observe Record and Report (ORR) telephone line are routed to this office where they are sorted and disseminated to the appropriate DFO field office other government agency.

The DFO radio room provides database query checks, keeps tabs on Fishery Officers working in the field and directs personnel and other assets as required. Fishery Officers working in remote locations always take comfort in the fact that help is just a radio call away.

Ralph will be remembered by his sister Maureen and was greatly admired by his colleagues. On behalf of the Corps and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, we would like to thank him for his long term service and watching our backs.

Condolences

"Hey Ralph, Sorry to hear you’re retiring, but we all hope live treats you well in the years ahead. We wanted to thank you for all your help and watching our backs all these years. I’ve heard many Fishery Officers comment that you were a very thorough and competent radio operator – we all felt safer when you were on duty. I still remember the first time I met you in Langley, when I was poking around in the middle of the night in the parking lot and you came outside and said “can I help you?” You were always there for us when we really needed it – and we want you to know we appreciate it. Don’t be a stranger, if you’re ever in Chilliwack, the door is always open."

Sean Geddes, on behalf of Chilliwack, Mission and Langley Detachments
